Children made Christmas cards out of recycled materials for their new friends (Greece, U.K. and Cyprus).
Cards from Greece: Cards from Cyprus:
Children with the teacher made a short animation for the plastic waste in Oceans. The animation describes life below water with plastic waste and without so the audience can have the opportunity to compare both environments. Many questions raised by many pupils at the end of the viewing.
Christmas fair Agios Spyridonas schools (Cyprus)
Teachers and pupils from Agios Spyridonas school used recycled materials to make Christmas decorations for their Christmas fair.
Parents supported our project by visiting the Cypriot school and making out of plastic bags Christmas ornaments.
The Brook pupils collected the lids of plastic bottles and made shakers that we use at music sessions at school!
The next step is to create rain shakers with tins and lentils.
Whitefield pupils made with recycled materials this beautiful sailing boat with the logo: Reduce-Reuse-Recycle. They gave it to the Brook pupils at the end of the movie premiere "Oceans S.O.S."
Thank you Whitefield!
Our movie "Oceans S.O.S.":
The snapshots below from the movie "Oceans S.O.S." show the hard word and the dedication of these pupils to learn, create and raise awareness of plastic waste in Oceans and beaches. Pupils from all schools made their hats and crafts and banners out of recycled materials and the story was created after discussions, ideas and experiences.
Children from Greece: backstage and filming:
Communication:
The children communicated via Skype where they introduced themselves in a foreign language (children from U.K. in Greek, and Cypriot children in English). They joined in a movement activity and shared their experience of the Oceans S.O.S. project.
Pupils wrote letters to their new friends from Greece and Cyprus where they introduced themselves!
Working and playing together:
Our children had a lot of fun putting together the jigsaw pieces and with the word search puzzle that we created for our project "Oceans S.O.S."

Recycling the plastic waste in Israel
During the spring half term break, 2 teachers traveled to Tel Aviv to meet the partners for a future international project and came across with the plastic recycling boxes. These boxes could be found almost in every corner of the city! When teachers returned to school, pupils saw the photos and discussed the benefits of the recycling boxes. They expressed their opinion that London should have similar boxes too and not only the recycling bins. Some of their comments were: "People can see the amount of plastic waste in the recycling boxes and will be aware", "So many plastic bottles!", "Why don't we have these in London?"
Our action plan with the objectives, activities and outcomes for the sustainable development goal "Life below water" can be found below. Pupils worked on the a variety of activities to develop understanding of the subject, raise awareness of the issue and find possible solutions through discussion and exploration.
